VOLUNTEER YOUR CHRISTMAS SPIRIT posted Oct 02, 2008

Do you love sharing the Christmas spirit? We are looking for some lovely volunteers to man our Christmas Remembrance Trees in malls throughout West Auckland this December.

The Christmas tree STARS tradition has been going for ten years now, and has become our major fundraising event.

Members of the public make a donation to Hospice, in return for a star decoration, which they write a message to a loved one on the back of, and hang on our tree. It's a special way for people in the community to commemorate those they have lost, at a time of the year when we all feel these losses strongly.

As a volunteer, you'll be paired up with at least one other (maybe a friend if they're keen too) and will be stationed by the tree in a 3-hour shift. It is a warm, friendly environment, and very, very rewarding.

We raised more than $18,000 through the trees last year and have twice the number of locations this year - so it is going to be bigger and better than ever before. The flipside to this is that we will need more volunteers than ever, so if you have any free time in the last few weeks of December please give Ben a call and see if you can help.

We have locations all around West Auckland including Westcity, Lynnmall, Helensville, Te Atatu Peninsula, Westgate, Kelston Shopping Centre, Titirangi Markets and the Coatesville Market. Potentially, also Lincoln Rd Warehouse.

So grab a friend and donate a few hours of your time to the Hospice and have a great time while you're doing it!

Call Ben on 834 9750 extension 721 now!

YOU CAN MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON OTHER'S LIVES

Time is the most precious thing we can give each other. If you have any spare time in your week or weekend and would like to contribute to hospice, or if you would like to find some extra meaning and purpose in life, we have a lot of opportunities for you to get involved.

Become a Volunteer
Volunteering is a rewarding and empowering way to make a difference to someone's life.

  • Assist in our Kowhai Wellness Programmes.
  • Become a community home visitor - visiting patients and families in their homes, giving carers some time out, having a chat or making a cup of tea.
  • Join the team of Retail Assistants in our Hospice Quality Second Hand Shops.
  • Share your artistic and creative flair as part of our Kowhai Arts & Drawing for Relaxation Programme.
  • Produce culinary or preserved delights (jams, chutneys etc) to go on sale for hospice.
  • Assist or get involved with one of our special events.
  • Utilise your skills. If you have skill or a trade, we may need your help. Some examples could be gardening, landscaping, cooking etc.

Donate goods
We are always looking for quality clothes, furniture, books and bric-a-brac to sell in our Hospice Quality Second Hand Shops. If you are moving, cleaning out your house or would simply like to make a donation, we are always grateful. You can be assured that the money raised from the sale of your items is going towards an important cause. Give us a call and we will pick up your goods.

Call us on 09 834 9750.

Donate Money
No matter how big or small every donation ensures our services remain free and available to every person who is dying in West Auckland.

Become a local business supporter

Many local businesses want to donate money to a charity in West Auckland. We can guide and discuss with you the benefits you can experience from being involved in this local supporter programme. Call Barbara Williams on 09 834 9751 to discuss.
