WHERE TO START

If you’d like support from West Auckland Hospice, you can call us directly or have a family member, your GP, health professional or community care provider refer you to us. We do have some criteria which we can discuss with you or your GP, but it is fairly straightforward.

YOU NEED TO KNOW:

We are a charitable trust. Our services are free, but we cannot provide any financial assistance. However, we can refer you to the relevant agencies, and help you with any documentation required.

You should also know that our nurses cannot prescribe medication, they can only administer medications prescribed by a doctor. Your GP will remain as your primary medical provider. At this time we do not have in-patient beds located in West Auckland, but we do have knowledge of  private hospitals, rest-homes and hospice in-patient beds (for complex situations) and we can make a recommendation for you.

KowhAi Wellness Programmes, Social Services & family SUPPORT

Kowhai Wellness Programmes are held in the relaxed, supportive atmosphere of our Kowhai Centre.

Kowhai Wellness Programmes

If you need some time-out from home, you’re welcome to join in with our Kowhai Wellness Programmes. This time is also an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns, problems or issues that you or your family, or carers, may have. Our team will be there to offer support, advice, and education, and talk to you about available options.

Art for relaxation

The Art programme is all about fun and relaxation. This is a chance for you to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of creative painting, drawing and other activities. There’s no pressure for you to be the next Picasso, you’re free to unleash your own view of the world!

Complementary Therapy

Complementary therapy is available for you, your family and carers.  Come along and be treated to gorgeous relaxation massages, foot and hand massages, reflexology, aromatherapy and reiki.

Caregivers

Caregivers need special care too. The Caregivers Wellness Programme offers relaxation, support, advice, education sessions, time-out, counselling, and a chance to share and gain support from others caring for a loved one at home.

Social Services and Family Support

Social Services and Family Support is available; you do not have to go through this alone. We can help you to gain a better understanding of the issues and feelings being dealt with by both you and your family. Family Support helps to address everybody’s emotional and spiritual needs, as well as helping you and your family talk about and work through any feelings of depression, helplessness, despondency, fear, frustration or bereavement. One-to-one support,  counselling and spiritual care is offered along with group support.

Kowhai Wellness Programmes are available on weekdays and there are morning and afternoon sessions. The programmes are comprehensive, free, and include light refreshments. To find out more about our Programmes or Family Support, call the West Auckland Hospice Social Services team on 09 834 9754
